Surely many of you know one of the most popular drinks in Japan. This is the drink Calpis . It is composed of water, skim milk and lactic acid, and is produced by lactic fermentation. The taste is very soft but hard to describe, is like a diluted yogurt and not too sweet with a hint of vanilla and limón.Se available as concentrated drink, mixed with water and sometimes milk just before drinking, also prediluted ( Calpis Water ) or gas ( Calpis Soda ). The Calpis is widely used to flavor kakigori-Japanese dessert made of shaved ice flavored with syrup-and elaborate cocktails.
It sold for the first time on July 7, 1919. Rapidly gaining great popularity in Japan in the beginning of the twentieth century, as its concentrated version was kept well without refrigeration. The packaging design mimics the Milky Way, referring to the Japanese festival Tanabata, the traditional celebration that celebrates the beginning of summer and the same day it started selling.
