New Prime Minister Fukuda of Japan
The new Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, elected by parliament, today announced it will appoint new cabinet ministers, Kyodo news agency reported.
Fukuda, leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), was elected by the House of Representatives (MPs), while the House of Councillors (Senate), controlled by the opposition, chose Ichiro Ozawa, president of the Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ .)
Due to the difference in appointments, for the first time in nine years, was called a joint committee to reach a joint decision, but to broker a deal.
Therefore, the decision was imposed by the representatives, as stipulated in the Constitution in cases of disagreement between the two legislative chambers, Kyodo said.
Fukuda, 71 years old and characterized in promoting friendly relations with neighboring countries, thus to replace Shinzo Abe, who announced his resignation on 12 September.
According to sources in the ruling PLD, the new cabinet would be headed by Nobutaka Machimura, former foreign minister and leader of the largest faction of the party.
The Foreign Ministry would correspond to Masahiko Komura, who was Defense Minister Abe that now exercised by the former director of the Defense Agency Shigeru Ishiba general.
