Due to the difficult relations existing between the two countries, tensions erupted again last Wednesday in the Kuriles, four islands located north of Japan that were occupied by Soviet troops on 18 August 1945 and whose sovereignty is claimed by Tokyo the abundance of stocks and the possible existence of gas fields.

After intercepting the said fishing boat, nearly five tons and is dedicated to catching crabs, Russian coastguards remolcaron it to the island of Kunashiri to question the captain Noboru Sakashita, and two other crew members called Akiyoshi Kawamura and Haruki Kamiya .
According to the release of the agents, the vessel had illegally entered Russian territorial waters, the patrol ordered him to stop the machines. Ignoring their requests, the Russian barge made several warning shots, one of whom was fatally andalusia Japanese sailor.
To show that the fishing boat was violating the law, the Russian Federal Security Service revealed that the warehouse had been found three tons of crabs and squid fish illegally, as well as various arts willing to make more catches on the high seas.
But these explanations have not satisfied the Japanese government, which was quick to condemn the intervention of the coastguard of the neighboring country. Thus, the Japanese foreign minister, Taro Aso, called immediately to a representative of the Russian Embassy in Tokyo to express their anger for what happened.
"We strongly protest against this extremely grave incident in which a Japanese citizen was killed," said Aso, who demanded the return of the seized ship and said that "the loss of human life can not be justified in any way."
For its part, the envoy of the Russian legation, which in turn had also been summoned by a low-ranking Japanese diplomat, the minister denied the allegations and attributed to the responsibility of the fishing event.
"There was a violation of Russian territorial waters, so this would not have happened if the ship had responded to the Coast Guard orders reiterasdas" said Mikhail Galuzin, who accused the Japanese fishermen of "repeatedly invade our boundaries despite the repeated warnings they have made directly to the Japanese authorities.
