Many people ask me about the habits of the Japanese and so on. So today I have to tell you about the mealtimes.

Something is very important when traveling to Japan, is knowing the right time for lunch and dinner. In Japan, when compared with Spain, and dinner is eaten fairly soon. The hours of the meal is usually between 12.00 and 14.00 but rarely is usually eaten later, as food menus of many restaurants are withdrawn after this time.
The dinner we find something more shocking to the Spanish, and dinner from 19.00 to 22.00. Entering a restaurant later than 22.00 is quite rare, and even the Japanese would say that for dinner start at 21.00 is not too normal, but at least in restaurants even serve you food.

All that said, I would say that the ideal time to eat for the Japanese is from 12.00 to 13.00 the free time that Japanese companies will often give workers for lunch, so at this time the restaurants are extremely full. In foreign companies in Japan, there is usually some freedom from self selected when you want to eat, so in my case, I usually go to lunch just after 13.00 to prevent all these queues at restaurants, but also I have to be careful not to go on later than 14.00.

As for dinner, I'd say 19.00 to 21.00 is the ideal time to eat the Japanese, perhaps more pulling that from 19.00 to 20.00 20.00 to 21.00.
One very important thing to remember is that in Tokyo, the last trains to run out between 23.30 and 00.30, depending on where you want to go, which means that later this hour, trains and subways are closed to all The next morning at 5.00 or 5.30, so the Japanese want to go to dinner early to have time to go to dinner and then go drinking with friends before they stop the trains.

All that said, there are always the Izakaya , which usually open in the evening and are open until morning, so you can go to dinner almost any time, is this, that are much better known Izakaya as a site for go to drink, because you can stay up all night talking and drinking with friends at an izakaya until the next morning.
