They say that Japan is a country in which the gap between rich and poor is smaller, but I guess that will be depending on the city in which we look.
There are many things that when it comes to tourism to Tokyo a few days will be ignored, but now that it took more than a year in Tokyo, I'm realizing that the homeless (homeless) abound more and more in Tokyo, and I've even seen some documentaries on the subject on TV. You can if you pass is impressed by dawn Shinjuku station and see that there are dozens of homeless refugees under the roof of the station to sleep.

The vast majority of Japanese people have a "great disgust" the homeless, crossing of wax to see one, or putting in disgust etc. But the truth is that the homeless in Japan does not say anything to anyone and are not as Rovers put Spain to ask for money, they just try to make your life without bothering anyone.
Sometimes I asked some Japanese who pretend disgust at seeing a tramp because they think those people are in that state, and many reply that they do not want to work, but I rather think so strict that it is the Japanese society, Japanese society is it that these people are prevented from being able to work either for not having a college degree, not to go to an interview in a suit and so on.

The Japanese government has begun to do a study on the homeless , but not about the homeless living on the streets, if not those who have no money to rent a house, or eat too much, but try to survive by taking refuge in the internet cafe.
Many internet cafe are open 24 hours a day, and are usually quite different from the internet cafe that can be seen in Spain. Here the internet cafe usually single rooms where there are also computer with internet, TV, air conditioning, play station, mangas to read, a very comfortable chair that becomes almost bed so you can rest, food services very low price, some even have showers etc etc. All this, and offers nightly from 5 to 8 hours where you can be at 880 yen, making many homeless go to sleep to the internet cafe and 880 yen per night have a place to sleep in a position, watching TV, showering , to find some work on the internet etc, but in the morning have to take your Backpack with all your things and go with everything set up the next night.

Here it is a video documentary on the phenomenon of homeless and cyber cafes.
