Zamami Island

Zamami is another of the islands that are part of the Kerama Islands (as Tokashiki ) in the district of Shimajiri.

The people of Zamami is composed of the islands of Zamami, Aka, and Fukaji the Geruma which have a population of 955 inhabitants.

Zamami economy is based on tourism being snorkeling, diving and kayak the island's main activity.
Basically there are two main beaches on the island of Zamami, that of Furuzamami which has crystal clear water and lots of corals and numerous marine Ama beach where it is common to see turtles.

As to Tokashiki, Zamami to be taking a ferry from Tomarin (Naha) it takes 2 hours or an express ferry from Tomarin also only takes 50 min. Tickets can be booked from here .

Once at the port of Zamami can go by bus to the beach of Love and Furuzamami or take a taxi (the only one on the island) to go from beach to beach or go to the observatory is in the montanya Takatsuki, which has great views of the surrounding islands and beaches.

Another famous spots of the island is the statue of the dog Marilin, which is en route between the port and beach of Love.

In winter people come to this island to see the whales, as it is a transit of whales and there are many organized tours to go see them.

I went with Alberto and some friends from Okinawa to Zamami a couple of weeks, about 20 minutes walk to the beach of Love but once on the beach we reported that they would only turtles are often seen at high tide in the afternoon, and I took the taxi to the beach where we Furuzamami most of the day snorkeling with the equipment we rented on the beach and we had a great time as the waters are crystal clear and there are very many super coral to see.
A little before he left the ferry back we went by taxi to the observatory where there are fantastic views to finally walk back to the port. No doubt an island more than recommended to visit.
