The Tsukiji Market
Last Saturday morning, after partying with a group of Spanish on Friday night, we all went to market "Tsukiji".
The market "Tsukiji" fish market is the largest in the world. Spend a day by some 2,300 tonnes of fish, over 400 different varieties from all over the world and it is estimated that the market 17 million dollar bill to date on the sale of fish.
But this is not surprising if we consider that the Japanese consume almost a third of the fish consumed worldwide.
It is also incredible to attend the tuna auctions of more than 200 kilos that are made daily in this market, not surprisingly, is spectacular as each day pass through this market 2,500 tuna, of which 500 are cool and the rest imported from countries like Spain, Mexico, USA, Italy and Turkey.
Unfortunately, we could not attend these auctions as we arrived to the market at 6.00 am, and auctions are held between 4.00 and 6.00 to avoid crowds of tourists in the auction, since the first trains do not start operations in Japan to 5.00.
Another impressive thing is seeing market its large size, the number of shops selling mounted to the public market, so crowded that even though done very early and the number of workers there with small vehicles transporting fish around the market to ensure that the fish reaches all retailers nationwide on time, so you have to be careful enough not to get hit by any of these vehicles are very fast in between people.
Another thing you could not miss after moving to the market is to have breakfast in one of the restaurants that are in the area where you can be pretty sure the fish is very fresh. Furthermore, as the Japanese who love to fish, buy a good piece of tuna to give to the family.
As always here you get some pictures and a video from this link you can see all the photos you take on the market.
